The elegant, lesser-spotted European bee-eater, a symbol of successful biodiversity conservation, now graces the Château’s single-vineyard cuvées.
This flamboyantly-coloured bird arrives just as the buds are sprouting, and heads south for warmer climes around harvest time. A demanding character who appreciates nature’s comforts. This familiar presence in the vineyards of Château Grand Escalion, returning year after year, inspired the look of the estate’s new range of plot-specific cuvées.
This 40 hectare vineyard dates back to 1884. Nicolas Speranza takes great pride in protecting its natural riches, by means of winegrowing practices which respect the environment and promote biodiversity. The estate has held Superior Environmental Value (HVE3) certification since the 2018 vintage.

The plot selection launched in 2014 is embodied in three emblematic cuvées.
Safranée 2024, Costières de Nîmes Rouge, born of two hectares of Villafranchian pebbles over red clay, a terroir where Syrah produces small, well-aerated bunches of concentrated grapes with a rich, velvety-smooth flavour profile.
Romane 2025, Costières de Nîmes Blanc, a blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Rolle grown on 2.3 hectares of clay soils over Pliocene marl, offering up a harmonious combination of richness and freshness.
Amoureuse 2025, Costières de Nîmes Rosé made with a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, picked by night then gently pressed and lightly clarified. The fruit is primarily sourced from clay soils, along with one hillside plot of pebbly soil where the Grenache achieves greater density.
