The Jewel of Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The La Châsse du Pape range was created in 1994 by Maison Gabriel Meffre which, on the strength of its history and experience in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, crafted the first Côtes du Rhône ‘Réserve’.

The name "La Châsse du Pape" was chosen in reference to the history of the Popes who lived in Avignon in the 14th century and their major role in the development of vineyards in the Rhône Valley and particulary in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. “La Châsse” refers to the chest that contained the most precious possessions of the sovereign pontiffs. This is why, today, we introduce La Châsse du Pape to the Pavillon Saint-Pierre, which will host the precious cuvées of the range like a treasure in a pontifical Châsse.
